Mail

Folder Pane

The left pane shows your mail folders. Standard folders include:

  • Inbox — incoming messages
  • Sent — messages you have sent
  • Drafts — saved message drafts
  • Trash — deleted messages
  • Spam / Junk — messages flagged by the spam filter

Below the standard folders you'll see any custom folders you or the server has created, as well as your Tags (see Tags) and Saved Searches.

Click a folder to view its messages. Right-click a folder for options such as creating a subfolder, renaming, or emptying the trash.

Reading Messages

Message List

The center pane shows messages in the selected folder. Each row shows:

  • Sender avatar and name
  • Subject line and preview text
  • Date or relative time
  • An unread dot (blue) for unread messages
  • Reply/forward icons if the message has been replied to or forwarded
  • Tag color indicators if tags are applied

Unread messages appear in bold. Click a message to preview it in the reading pane, or double-click to open it in a full tab.

Reading Pane

The reading pane shows the full content of the selected message. It renders HTML email in a sandboxed frame.

External images — by default, images from external senders are blocked to protect your privacy. A banner at the top of the message asks if you want to load them. You can change this behavior in Settings → Mail → Reading.

Mark as read — messages are automatically marked as read after a short delay when previewed. You can change the delay (or require explicitly opening the message) in Settings → Mail → Reading.

Opening a Message in a Tab

Double-click any message in the list to open it as a full tab. This is useful when you want to read a message while keeping your current folder view.

Organizing Messages

Selecting Messages

  • Click a message to select it.
  • Shift+click to select a range.
  • Ctrl+click (or Cmd+click on Mac) to add individual messages to a selection.
  • The checkbox at the top of the list selects all visible messages.

Deleting Messages

Select one or more messages and press Delete, or right-click and choose Delete. Messages move to Trash. Empty the Trash from the folder pane right-click menu.

Moving Messages

Drag selected messages from the message list and drop them onto a folder in the folder pane. You can also right-click → Move to and choose a destination folder.

Marking as Read / Unread

Click the unread dot on a message row to mark it as read. Right-click a message or selection for options to mark as read or unread.

Conversation View

Conversation view groups messages by subject thread so related messages appear together instead of spread across your inbox.

To toggle conversation view: Click the conversation icon in the mail toolbar (or go to Settings → Mail).

In conversation view:

  • Each thread shows a participant summary, unread count badge, and message count.
  • Click a thread to expand it and see individual messages.
  • Double-click a thread to open the most recent message in a new tab.
  • Threads are grouped by normalized subject (Re:/Fwd: prefixes are stripped when matching).

Each folder has a search box above the message list. Searching here filters only within the current folder.

Global Search (Ctrl+K)

Press Ctrl+K (or click the magnifier in the navigation rail) to open the global search modal. This searches across all mail, and also searches Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks depending on which module you're in.

Search operators:

Operator Example Finds
in: in:sent Messages in a specific folder
from: from:alice Messages from a sender
to: to:bob Messages to a recipient
between: between:1/1/2025:3/1/2025 Messages in a date range
(plain text) quarterly report Full-text body and subject search

Operators can be combined: from:alice in:inbox quarterly report

Recent and Saved Searches

The search modal shows your recent searches below the input. To save a search, run it and click Save search — it will appear in your folder pane under Saved Searches for quick access.

Tags

Tags let you label messages with custom colors for flexible organization without moving them to folders. See Tags for full details.

Calendar Bar

The Calendar Bar is an optional panel on the right side of the mail view showing a mini calendar and upcoming events.

To show/hide it: Click the calendar icon in the mail toolbar, or go to Settings → Calendar → Calendar Bar.

  • Click a date in the mini calendar to filter the event list to that day.
  • Double-click a date to jump to that day in the full Calendar view.
  • Double-click an event in the list to open it for editing.
